1. to be in hot water:遇到麻烦

I was in a bit of hot water with Sarah last night when she found out I went to the movies instead of cleaning the house.

Sarah发现了我昨天晚上去看电影了，没有打扫卫生，我惹上麻烦了。

You are going to be in hot water if the boss finds out you left early yesterday!

要是老板发现你昨天早退你就麻烦了。

2. in deep water: 陷入困境

Jim is in deep water with his creditors.

Jim陷入了债务麻烦。

3. to keep your head above water:避免负债

My boss gives me so much to do that I have to work weekends just to keep my head above water.

我的老板给我安排了如此多的工作，以至于我不得不周末加班才能勉强完成。

4. It’s all water under the bridge: 覆水难收，无关紧要

-Jenny, are you still mad about what she said?

-Jenny，你还在因为她说的话生气吗？

-No, that was a long time ago. It's all water under the bridge.

-没有啦，那都是很久以前的事情了。无关紧要了。

5. a fish out of water: 对新环境感到不适应，不自在

6. hold water: (容器)不漏水; 言之有理；说得通

His argument just doesn’t hold water. Its all based on emotions, not on facts.

他的争论根本站不住脚。都是自己的主观情绪，不是客观事实。
