When you hear the word "Studio Ghibli Theme Park", your mind is probably racing with attraction ideas.

But the Studio Ghibli Park that opens later this year will contain none of that.

Opening in November of this year, the park will let you step into the world of famed Ghibli films including My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and many many more.

I'm Luke and this is the full breakdown of the upcoming Ghibli Park.

Studio Ghibli Park will be located in the Aichi Expo Memorial Park in Nagakute city, about halfway between Tokyo and Osaka.

The park is the former home of the 2005 World Expo, built on a once-forested area, still embracing a lot of the natural features.

With the entire theme of that Expo being nature's wisdom and the Japanese name of the Expo translating into "Love the Earth Expo", this love of the earth will continue into the Ghibli Park.

With Miyazaki, the creator Studio Ghibli, vowing that the park would be built without any trees being cut down, with all construction taking place in already existing clearings, announced in 2017 before starting construction in 2020, the park is on track to open in 2022, not letting the pandemic get in the way of their opening plans.

The park's entrance area will be known as youth hill with the entrance building, doubling as an observation tower, featuring a steampunk design invoking films such as Howl's Moving Castle.

This building did already exist in the Expo Memorial Park.

The area will also be packed with green spaces to explore or simply relax in.

Also from that film will be a large six-meter recreation of the movie's airship hanging from the ceiling.

The final section of the three that will open with the park is the Dondoko Forest, representing a rural landscape from the Showa period of Japanese history, which took place between 1926 and 1989.

Within this lush natural forest will be the recreation of Satsuki and Mei's House from My Neighbor Totoro, a house that was conveniently already on the location after being initially built for the 2005 World Expo.

But around a year later, two more areas will be added, hoping to round out the offering.

The land will be based on the Irontown Village for the film and contains several mystical creatures as seen in that movie, including The Gods of Destruction, Tatari-gami and The Boar God Okkooto.

As you can see, the word theme park may not be the best definition for this upcoming attraction.
