Percy Buttons.

I remember my friend Susan once told me a story about an interesting beggar named Percy Buttons.

Susan

Susan has just moved to her new house in Bridge street.

A beggar knocked at her door and asked for a meal and a glass of beer.

I guess the beggar could be an alcoholic. (酒鬼:alcoholic. )

Susan

Susan gave the beggar what he asked for.

In return for the food and drink, the beggar showed his special talent: he could stand on his head and sing songs.

That is the most interesting part of the story.

Headstand is not an easy thing to do.

Usually people can just stand on their hands rather than heads.

So he must be a beggar with talents.

But I would like to remind you that it is pretty dangerous to stand on your head. So don’t do it at home.

After the show, Percy Buttons put a piece of cheese in his pocket and left.

He not only ate the food, but also saved some. It was really a fruitful day for him.

Later Susan learned about the beggar from her neighbor. The beggar is a well-known man in the street.

Why?  Because, he drops by each house once a month in the street and always asks for a meal and a glass of beer.

I would like to give you a math question. According to the story, how many houses do you think are there in the street?

There are three meals in a day, and 30 days in a month. In total, he is going to ask for 90 meals in a month.

We know he calls at every house once a month. That is to say, there will be at least 90 houses in the street.

We can do the math in English.

It is one of the oldest occupations in human history.

Beggars should be abolished entirely! It is annoying to give to them and it is annoying not to give to them.

Annoying:

Beggars sell themselves as human beings to arouse the pity of passers-by.

Why do people have different attitudes towards the homeless?

各式Homeless people:

Fake beggars deceive people into believing that they are in need.(Deceive:欺骗)Those beggars are very lazy. They take advantage of others’ kindness.

Those people who are really in need are not annoying.

Because compassion is a common human emotion.

1:Compassion is a common emotion.

启示2:Language is power。

Here are some creative homeless signs:

(1)“I will bet you 1 dollar you will read this sign”.

(2)“Naked Invisible man.”
