Primary resources, for instance, trees and petroleum, are being used at a worrying rate, and in turn, this has led to several challenges for human civilization. This essay shall explore some of the difficulties this phenomenon poses, along with offering solutions for how to overcome such problems.

One of the most serious issues resulting from primary resource depletion is that many of these resources are non-renewable. This means that the resource can only be used once, and that it will take an exceedingly lengthy time to replenish. Oil is a prime example of this unsustainability, and as a consequence of this one-time use characteristic, will eventually become exhausted. Likewise, forests are being cut down at an increasingly unsustainable rate, which is leading to the reduction of Earth’s wooded areas, particularly rain forests, causing not just a lack of trees and wood, but actually posing a threat to Earth’s biodiversity, and indeed, even our atmosphere by depleting it of life-giving oxygen.

Despite the seriousness of these challenges, technology holds the promise to overcome these resource-based problems. An example of such technology is that of solar power panels, which are able to capture the energy of the Sun and convert it into electrical power. Other forms of power derived from renewable forms of energy are hydrogen batteries, and it has even been shown that both water and air can generate electricity. Using recyclable materials could also help reduce the amount of wood humans consume, and new molecular-based solutions for water purification also hold great new promise, helping us to overcome the problem of polluted drinking water supplies caused in part by the incessant use of fossil fuels and erosion from deforestation.

In conclusion, though the world’s rapid depletion of nature’s resources has resulted in a plethora of problems, such as deforestation and the increasing scarcity of primary natural reserves, new innovative technologies can help to solve and circumvent such challenges.
