More people have strong desire to travel and the market is seeing more opportunities for healing tourism, which means less tight schedules and more health related projects, bringing joy to the spirit, a new survey shows.

As China optimized their COVID-19 response measures, the pent-up travel demand has been released. About 91.24 percent of respondents to the survey conducted by Chinese financial media outlet Yicai said they have a plan to travel this year. About 60 percent of respondents said they have a plan to travel domestically, while 32.37 percent choose both domestic and outbound tourism this year.

In terms of tour expenditure, 57.39 percent of respondents said they would prefer 10,000-20,000 yuan per person per single trip, while 32.6 percent choose 5,000-10,000 yuan, according to a survey based on more than 1,200 questionnaires.

Though the tourism industry was hit hard by COVID-19, after the pandemic, people began to pay more attention to their health and have strengthened their will to travel, Cheng Chaogong, a senior researcher with the research institute of Tongcheng Travel, told Yicai. A growing number of consumers are paying more attention to health-related consumption, among which healing tourism has become a bright spot.

About 87 percent of respondents to the survey said they are willing to spend toward healthy products and more than half, or 55.24 percent, said they plan to participate in healing tourism this year. Data from travelling platforms showed cities located around the tropic of cancer such as Sanya, Zhuhai, Xishuangbanna, Dali, Xiamen, Haikou, Tengchong and Beihai are becoming popular.

>Study finds 186 banks vulnerable to SVB-like collapse

A new study says that, depending on certain market conditions, nearly 200 U.S. banks could be vulnerable to the same fate as Silicon Valley Bank (SVB).

A recent Social Science Research Network study suggests that 186 American banks could fail if half of their depositors suddenly withdrew their funds. The researchers formulated a speculative scenario in which each bank experienced a run, and concluded that the FDIC would run out of money.

The study was published shortly after the collapse of SVB, the worst American financial institution failure since 2008.

"Our calculations suggest these banks are certainly at a potential risk of a run, absent other government intervention or recapitalization," the economists wrote. "Even if only half of uninsured depositors decide to withdraw, almost 190 banks are at a potential risk of impairment to insured depositors, with potentially $300 billion of insured deposits at risk," the study's abstract reads. "If uninsured deposit withdrawals cause even small fire sales, substantially more banks are at risk."

The issue lies in the fact that the studied banks' assets are in government bonds and mortgage backed securities, which were negatively affected by the Federal Reserve's recent interest rate hikes.

Many of SVB's assets were long-term government bonds. Despite being a sound long-term investment, they were not worth as much as when SVB originally bought them. SVB invested too heavily in longer-term mortgage securities with more than 10 years to maturity.

SVB sold those bonds at a staggering $1.8 billion loss to meet customer withdrawals. When SVB disclosed that loss, depositors panicked and withdrew their money.

"Overall, these calculations suggest that recent declines in bank asset values very significantly increased the fragility of the US banking system to uninsured depositor runs," the study's abstract concludes.

Switzerland’s biggest bank, UBS, has agreed to buy its ailing rival Credit Suisse in an emergency rescue deal aimed at stemming financial market panic unleashed by the failure of two American banks earlier this month.

UBS is paying 3 billion Swiss francs ($3.25 billion) for Credit Suisse, about 60% less than the bank was worth when markets closed on Friday. Credit Suisse shareholders will be largely wiped out, receiving the equivalent of just 0.76 Swiss francs in UBS shares for stock that was worth 1.86 Swiss francs on Friday.

Shares in the 167-year-old bank fell 25% over the week, money poured from investment funds it manages and, at one point, account holders were withdrawing deposits of more than $10 billion per day, the Financial Times reported. An emergency loan of nearly $54 billion from the Swiss National Bank failed to stop the bleeding.
