You’ve already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in.

Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today.

和天下所有的父母一样，我们希望你成长的世界，好过我们今天的世界。

While headlines often focus on what’s wrong, in many ways the world is getting better. 

虽然新闻总是报道哪里出了问题，但从很多方面看，世界正在往好的方向发展。

Health is improving. Poverty is shrinking. Knowledge is growing. People are connecting. 

卫生水平在改善、贫困人口在减少、知识在积累、人与人彼此联通。

Technological progress in every field means your life should be dramatically better than ours today. 各领域的技术进步意味着你的生活会大大好于我们今天的生活。

We will do our part to make this happen, not only because we love you, 

我们会尽自己的职责让这一切发生，这不光是因为我们爱你，

but also because we have a moral responsibility to all children in the next generation.

也是因为我们对所有下一代的孩子负有道义上的责任。

We believe all lives have equal value, and that includes the many more people who will live in future generations than live today. 我们相信，人人都具有同样的价值，未来增加的人口也是一样。

Our society has an obligation to invest now to improve the lives of all those coming into this world, not just those already here.

我们的社会有义务投资今日，改善那些所有将降生在这个世界上人的生活，而不仅仅是现在这些人。

But right now, we don’t always collectively direct our resources at the biggest opportunities and problems your generation will face.

不过就现在来说，我们有时候没有齐心协力将资源用在解决你们这一代将面临的问题上，没有给你们创造最大的机遇。

For your generation to live in a better world, there is so much more our generation can do.

为了让你们这一代生活在更好的世界，我们这一代能做的事情还有很多。

Today your mother and I are committing to spend our lives doing our small part to help solve these challenges. 今天，我和你母亲承诺，用我们毕生的精力，为解决这些挑战尽微薄之力。

I will continue to serve as Facebook’s CEO for many, many years to come, but these issues are too important to wait until you or we are older to begin this work. 

在今后多年里，我还将继续担任Facebook首席执行官一职，但上面这些问题是不能等到你长大了，或是我们变老了在着手解决的。
