In an exclusive interview with the BBC, Carlos Ghosn revealed how he escaped Japan after spending long periods under house arrest over allegations that he had understated his annual salary and misused company funds. On a cold December night in 2019, the former titan of the global car industry lay bundled inside a box on board a plane, fled Japan and swapped planes in Turkey before landing in Beirut the next morning. He said the idea of using a large box that would normally contain musical instruments was the most logical one as there were a lot of concerts in Japan at that time.
