Thousands of emergency responders are battling to contain fast-spreading wildfires in China's southwestern city of Chongqing amid a weeks-long, record heat wave in the region.

The fires, which have been visible at night from parts of the downtown area, have swept forests and mountains around the mega city in recent days.

Chongqing has faced the most severe extreme high temperatures since 1961. Thousands of emergency responders are battling to contain fast-spreading wildfires in Chongqing. The wildfires have been a weeks-long, record heat wave in the region.

Locals from some parts of the downtown area claimed they could actually see the fires at night. 

The fires have recently swept forests and mountains around the mega city. Thank goodness, it's over and well under control now.
