Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in a drone strike in Kabul, Afghanistan, US President Joe Biden announced on Monday evening. Al-Zawahiri became head of al-Qaeda in 2011 after its longtime leader, Osama bin Laden, was shot and killed by US forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan, during a raid.

Biden's announcement came nearly a year after the US military completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan, which it invaded in response to the Sept 11, 2001, terror attacks carried out by al-Qaeda operatives against targets on American soil, killing nearly 3,000 people.

China forbids COVID-related employment discrimination

Employers and human resources service agencies are strictly forbidden from refusing to recruit people who have recovered from COVID-19 on the grounds that they once tested positive for the virus, according to a circular jointly released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the National Health Commission. Discrimination against people who have recovered from COVID-19 when they are in the process of work orientation or in the workplace should be prohibited. 

据人力资源和社会保障部、国家卫生健康委员会1日联合发布的“关于坚决打击对新冠肺炎康复者就业歧视的紧急通知”，严禁用人单位、人力资源服务机构以曾经新冠肺炎病毒核酸检测阳性为由，拒绝招(聘)用新冠肺炎康复者。严禁用人单位在劳动者入职和用工过程中对新冠肺炎康复者实施就业歧视。

Employers are also strictly forbidden from illegally laying off those who have recovered from COVID-19. To protect the equal employment rights of people who have recovered, the circular said that no organization or individual shall unlawfully inquire about nucleic acid test results, except to meet the needs of COVID-19 prevention and control work. The circular also banned employers from releasing recruitment information that discriminates against people who formerly tested positive for COVID-19. 

严禁用人单位随意违法辞退、解聘新冠肺炎康复者。为保证康复人员平等就业权益，除因疫情防控需要，任何单位和个人不得擅自非法查询相关检测结果。严禁用人单位发布或委托发布含有新冠肺炎病毒核酸检测历史阳性等歧视性内容的招聘信息。

According to a survey and analyzed data from 18 studies, one in 20 people may suffer from problems in their taste and smell at least six months after testing positive for coronavirus. The survey was put together by a team of international experts, including some from the UK and analyzed data from 18 studies comprising 3,699 patients.

It added that women are less likely to recover their sense of smell and taste, and patients who suffered the most in the initial stage of infection were more likely to have long-term issues.

Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of CPCA, said on his official WeChat account that the sales decrease can be attributed to RV production, which was affected by the pandemic outbreak in Shanghai in the first half of 2022.
