Text 1

W: I wonder what' 's happened. It's already 9:30.

M: That's strange! The play should have started twenty minutes ago according to the timetable.

Text 2

M: We got off the bus too early. We have to wait for the next bus, or take a taxi.

W: Well, the bus is better.

Text 3

W: Can we discuss the details of the lecture this afternoon?

M:I can't make it today. I'll fly to New York on business.

Text 4

M: I really believe that men are better drivers than women- it's a fact!

W: That's absolute rubbish! Men are the ones who drive too fast and cause all the accidents.

Text5

W: I wonder whether it will be easy to get along with our new boss.

M: We have to know his hobby, his chracter and so on.

第二节听下面5段对话或独白。每段对话或独白后有几个小题,从题中所给的A.B.C三个选项中选出最佳选项,

听第6段材料.回答第6.7题。

Text6

M: Hello. I just checked into my room, 904. It smells like smoke in here. I requested a non- smoking room.

W: I'm so sorry. It must have been a typing mistake.

M: Can anything be done about that?

W: Of course, sir. I'll send someone up right away to collect your bags and we'll put you to another floor.

听第7段材料,回答第8.9题。

Text7

W: Mark, come here. Do you see that customer? I think she might be trying to steal some food,

M: Are you sure? We don't want to accuse a customer of something they aren’t actually doing.

W: Just watch what she is doing for a while. If you see anything strange, let me know and I'll call the security guards.

M: All right. Hand me those boxes. I'll pretend I'm arranging the shelves.

听第8段材料,回答第10至12题。

Text8

M: Lucy, what a nice surprise! I didn't expect to see you here.

W: Hi, Gabriel. Actually I didn't think I would be able to come here, but my business trip has been canceled. I’m so happy that I can make it to our ten year reunion. Many things have changed.

M: Can you believe it's been ten years since we last saw each other? Remember the time you and 1 did a presentation together and made a lot of mistakes? But Professor Williams gave us A plus anyway.

W :How can I forget! That's one of my best memories of my four university years.

听第9段材料,回答第13至16题。

Text 9

W: Hello, Fred. I've just received a letter from Mrs.Lewis here. She isn’t happy and I need to reply as soon as possible.

M: Really? What's the problem?

W: Well, she's referring to a computer course on the 25th of April. Two people from her company were on the course.

M:1 think you mean on the 26th actually. The 25th was a Sunday.

W:OK. Anyway, you know about it?

M: Well, I wasn't here. I was supposed to be but 1 had to take the day off because my son was sick. And I got a replacement trainer. The trainer was a lit late that day. But we added the lost time on to the end of class. Is that what they're not satisfied about?

W: Well, that's one thing. 1 didn't know you added the time back on. And it's also because of a room change.

M: Well, I had told them the course was full and we could only take one of their people, but their company still sent two. So rather than sending one of them home we were able to switch training rooms and deal with it.

W:S o that sounds like their fault. OK. That's all 1 need to know. I'm sure 1 can sort it out.

听第10段材料,回答第17至20题。

Text 10

W: Good afternoon. In this class we're talking about Coober Pedy, the Australian desert town. It lies 860 kilometres north of Adelaide and 690 south of Alice Springs. The extreme climate and lack of water made it a highly unlikely place for 'humans to live, but that all started to change in 1915 with the discovery of the precious stones.

Settlements were founded following the First World War, when Australian soldiers returning from the battlefields of France brought with them the techniques of living below ground. During the period of the 1920s and 30s, the town was so poor that many explorers left. But the town became active again in the 1940s. Some people from Europe arrived in large numbers after Second World War.

It must be remembered how tough conditions were.I Daytime summer temperatures reached well over 50 degrees Centigrade, and winter nights were bitterly cold. So more and more people began living in underground houses, where the temperature remains at a comfortable 25 degrees all year round.

As years go by, the homes have become bigger. There are now also some hotels for tourists. They come from all over the world just to see this unusual town. Coober Pedy is probably best known for its unique style of underground living.
