Text 1

M: Hi, Susan! Heavy traffic delayed me for 10 minutes. But now I'm driving on the way to pick you up. I'll get there in 15 minutes.

W: Alright, that means you'll arrive at 7100.

Text 2

W: Would you like to pay now or shall I charge it to your room?

M: I'd rather pay now. I'll be done soon. Please be quick.

W: I'll be back with the bill.

Text 3

W: Excuse me. I'm going to Becky Restaurant, but I got lost.

M: Oh! You can take the bus on the right, and get off at Grand Bank Station. It's behind it.

W: Thanks.

Text 4

М: I saw your father doing exercise in the gym this morning.

W: Well, he used to be a couch potato at home, and it was to walk the dog in the park that he went out. But last month he had a physical examination, only to find he's overweight. So he began working out there.

Text 5

W: What's your plan after graduation?

M: I'd like to work to support my family. Meanwhile, I'm going to do voluntary work.

W: Great! I want to help people, too. That's why I'm learning first aid in my spare time.

Text 6

M: Hi! I have an appointment with Sarah Lin at 2 o'clock.

W: OK. What's your name?

M: Tony Smith, from Sun Solar Company.

W: Well, Sarah is still in a meeting with the manager. She'll be here in 10 minutes with her secretary.

M: OK.

W: Please have a seat on the sofa over there.

M: Thank you. Is there a restroom on this floor?

W: Yes. Walk past the lifts, then take a left, and you'll see it.

M: Thanks.

Text 7

M: Hey, Lisa. How do you use the parking meter in Vancouver?

W: Well, there are two ways. If you have coins, you can just feed the meter next to the parking spot on the street.

M: What if 1 don't have any coins?

W:Download the city's parking app, then you have to pay by credit card.

M: What's the app called?

W: Pay by Phone.

M: Can I pay by WeChat?

W: No. It's not allowed.

M: Is there anything else I should know?

W: You can park at one spot for up to two hours.

M: OK.

W: And one more thing , make sure to move your car before the meter runs out. Parking fines start at 42 dollars. One hour later, you'll be fined much money.

M: OK. I'll remember that.

Text 8

W: Just these two?

M: Yeah. I borrowed such a kind of book last week. It's so interesting. So I came to get more.

W: OK. Here you are. These are due back in three weeks.

M: Thanks, I searched for the new Michael Scott book on the computer, but I got no results.

W: We don't have his new book at present.

M: Do you know when it will be available to check out?

W: Well, new books will arrive next Tuesday. Michael Scott's new book is included.

M: So can I come to check it out next Wednesday?

W: No hurry. I'll have to add the books to our computer system that day. So you can do that next day,

M: OK, got it.

W: So you are a Michael Scott fan?

M: Yeah, a big fan of his.

W: Well, I look forward to seeing you soon.

Text 9

W : Mark, can I have a word with you, please?

M: Sure, Sophie.

W: Right. I'll get straight to the point with this.

M: OK.

W:We had a chat one week ago, didn't we?

M: Yes, we did.

W: I wasn't particularly happy with the way you were getting along with other colleagues. You were being uncooperative and rather argumentative. And frankly, since then, I’ve seen very little change.

M: Well, I think I've made an effort to be more helpful and that I deserve a raise. I don't see Jane being particularly hands on even though she has recently been promoted.

W: Jane hasn't got anything to do with this. We're here to talk about you. There have been comments about your constant complaining in the office, which really brings down team spirit.

M: Look. I don't see what the problem is. I mean, I'm still doing my job properly although sometimes I don't get to work on time.

W: Well, I expect better from you, Mark. If I don't see serious improvement in your behavior in the next two weeks, then I'm afraid we re going to have to let you go. This is the final warning.

Text 10

M: Hello, everyone. This time I'll talk about the reality show with you. Reality shows use ordinary people instead of actors. The first reality show called Candid Camera wain 1948 , which was not a hit at all. In 1950, the reality show Beat the Clock became a huge success. Participants did amusing and funny tasks in a time limit. These early shows were entertaining and participants and viewers loved them. But today's shows are different. Shows like Big Brother are cruel or embarrassing for the participants. This is alright when the participants are adults, but it is quite different when they are children or teenagers.

In the reality show Kid Nation, 40 young people between the ages of 8 to 15 lived together in an abandoned town for 42 days. These young people tried to organize their life without the adults and cameras followed them everywhere. However, the fact was that though the participants each get a good daily wage, some of them left before the show was finished, saying it was unattractive.
