China saw a total of 160 million domestic tourist trips during the five-day May Day holiday, down 30.2 percent from last year, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Wednesday. Tourism revenue reached 64.68 billion yuan, down 42.9 percent from last year, according to the ministry. 
文化和旅游部5月4日发布的数据显示，"五一"假期全国国内旅游出游1.6亿人次，同比减少30.2%；实现国内旅游收入646.8亿元，同比减少42.9%。

The ministry said people's desire for travel remains high despite the epidemic, as many chose to embark on short-distance tours in or near their homes. Camping trips and homestays saw a boom thanks to the surge, according to the ministry.
文旅部表示，尽管新冠疫情导致出游半径受限，但人们的旅游意愿仍然很高，许多人选择短途游，带动户外露营和乡村民宿升温。

China sets up world's highest automatic weather station
我国在珠峰架设世界最高气象站

Chinese scientific researchers on Wednesday established an automatic meteorological monitoring station at an altitude of over 8,800 meters, making it the world's highest of its kind, on Mount Qomolangma on the China-Nepal border. Including the new weather station, eight elevation gradient meteorological stations have been set up on Mount Qomolangma -- one of the main tasks in China's new comprehensive scientific expedition on the world's highest peak, at a height of 8,848.86 meters.  
5月4日，我国科考队员成功在中尼边境的珠穆朗玛峰建立了一个海拔8800多米的自动气象监测站，这是世界上海拔最高的自动气象监测站。此次完成气象站架设后，就形成珠峰地区8个气象梯度观测站点，这是中国在这座海拔8848.86米的世界最高峰上进行全面科学考察的主要任务之一。

Also on Wednesday, 13 members of the expedition team reached the summit of Mount Qomolangma. At the summit, the squad measured the thickness of the ice and snow using high-accuracy radar for the first time, and collected samples for further research.

当日，13名珠峰科考队员成功登顶珠穆朗玛峰。除了架设气象站，登顶科考队员还完成了利用高精度雷达测量冰雪厚度、采集冰雪样品等峰顶科考任务。

Migrant workers enjoy higher income in 2021
去年农民工月均收入4432元

China's migrant workers from rural areas enjoyed higher incomes and better living conditions in 2021, official data showed. In 2021, migrant workers in the country earned an average of 4,432 yuan per month, increasing by 8.8 percent year-on-year, according to a report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Migrant workers in the manufacturing industry saw their monthly income surge 10.1 percent last year, NBS said. 
4月29日，国家统计局发布报告称，我国农民工收入稳步增长，居住条件改善。报告显示，2021年农民工月均收入4432元，比上年增长8.8%。其中，从事制造业农民工月均收入比上年增长10.1%。

The living area per capita of China's migrant workers climbed 0.2 square meters, to 21.7 square meters in 2021, and 95.6 percent of migrant workers have access to the Internet, said the report. NBS data also showed that the population of China's migrant workers reached 292.51 million in 2021, an increase of 6.91 million over the previous year.

US secretary of state tests positive for COVID-19

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, a State Department spokesman said. Blinken tested positive on Wednesday afternoon via a PCR test, Ned Price said in a statement. Blinken was fully vaccinated and boosted against the virus, and "is experiencing only mild symptoms," he said. Price said that Blinken "will isolate at home and maintain a virtual work schedule." According to Price, Blinken has not seen President Joe Biden in person for several days.
