Plan issued for transportation networks
交通运输体系发展规划发布

China has unveiled a plan outlining major targets for transportation network development in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). High-speed railways will stretch to a total length of 50,000 kilometers in 2025 — up from 38,000 kilometers in 2020 — and 250-km/h routes are expected to cover 95 percent of cities with populations above 500,000, per the document released by the State Council. 
国务院近日发布《"十四五"现代综合交通运输体系发展规划》。《规划》提出，高速铁路营业里程将从2020年的3.8万公里发展为2025年的5万公里。主要采用250公里及以上时速标准的高速铁路网对50万人口以上城市覆盖率达到95%以上。

Cities will see 72 percent of buses running on new energy, an improvement from the present 66.2 percent, and the carbon dioxide emission intensity of the transportation sector will be decreased by 5 percent. In 2025, grain, energy and ore transportation safety in major channels will have a stronger guarantee, and international logistics supply chains will be better protected. Looking to 2035, the plan aims to build "1-2-3 circles" for passenger trips and the transportation of goods.
城市新能源公交车辆占比将从66.2%提高至72%，交通运输二氧化碳排放强度将降低5%。粮食、能源、矿石等物资运输安全更有保障，国际物流供应链安全保障能力持续提升。展望2035年，"全国123出行交通圈"和"全球123快货物流圈"基本形成。

今年确保脱贫人口就业规模高于3000万人

To consolidate its poverty elimination achievements, China will strive to ensure at least 30 million people who have been lifted out of poverty are employed this year, a senior official said on Tuesday. In 2021, some 31.45 million people lifted out of poverty found jobs, said Liu Huanxin, deputy chief of the Office of the Central Rural Work Leading Group and head of the National Rural Revitalization Administration. That number is 1.26 million more than the 2020 level, Liu said, pledging efforts to achieve even better results this year. 
中央农办副主任、国家乡村振兴局局长刘焕鑫1月18日在视频会议上表示，2021年脱贫人口就业规模达到3145万人，比上年增加126万人。2022年要继续巩固脱贫攻坚成果，确保年度全国脱贫人口就业规模高于3000万人，力争比2021年有所增加。

To that end, Liu said work will be done to boost labor service cooperation between provinces, cities and counties, develop characteristic industries, provide public welfare jobs in rural areas and support entrepreneurship and flexible employment.
刘焕鑫表示，要深化省际间劳务协作，探索市县间劳务协作，通过特色产业带动就业、开发乡村公益岗位扩大就业、支持自主创业灵活就业。

Pilot digital yuan hits 87.57B
数字人民币交易额超875亿

China's digital yuan transactions hit nearly 87.57 billion yuan at the end of 2021, as the country ramped up research and pilot use of the central bank's digital currency. A total of 261 million personal wallets for the digital yuan had been opened, and the number of pilot scenarios had exceeded 8.08 million, said Zou Lan, an official with the People's Bank of China, at a news conference Tuesday. 
中国人民银行金融市场司司长邹澜1月18日在新闻发布会上表示，我国稳妥推进数字人民币研发试点，截至2021年12月31日，数字人民币试点场景已超过808万个，累计开立个人钱包2.61亿个，交易金额近875.7亿元。

He said the central bank would continue promoting research and development of the digital fiat currency, or the e-CNY, and further deepen pilot use of e-CNY in retail services, government services and other scenarios.
邹澜表示，下一步，人民银行将继续稳妥推进数字人民币研发试点，进一步深化数字人民币在零售交易、政务服务等场景试点使用。

The Omicron variant is sickening so many sanitation workers around the US that some cities have had to delay or suspend garbage or recycling pickup, leaving residents shocked governments can't perform this most basic of functions. The slowdowns have caused recycling bins full of Christmas gift boxes and wrapping paper to languish on Nashville curbs, trash bags to pile up on Philadelphia streets and uncollected yard waste - grass clippings, leaves, branches - to block sidewalks in Atlanta. 

美国各地众多环卫工人感染奥密克戎变异株，以至于一些城市不得不延迟或暂停垃圾回收。此举激怒居民：政府竟无法履行这一最基本的职能。在纳什维尔，装满圣诞礼盒和包装纸的回收箱被丢弃在路边；在费城，垃圾袋被堆积在街道上；在亚特兰大，未被收集的草屑、树叶和树枝等庭院垃圾堵塞了人行道。

This garbage crisis is actually the third of the pandemic. The first happened in the spring of 2020, when COVID-19 first took hold in the US. Problems arose again as the Delta variant spiked over the summer. The Solid Waste Association of North America warned government officials and trash haulers in December to "plan now for staffing shortages".
这已是美国第三次因疫情而遭遇废弃物危机，前两次在2020年春季疫情暴发初期、以及去年夏季"德尔塔"变异毒株升温时。北美固体废弃物协会去年12月就示警美国政府和垃圾运输业者，"要为清洁人力吃紧做好计划"。
