President Xi Jinping has called for stepping up the building of a modern military logistics system to promote the high-quality development of modern logistics for the country's armed forces.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remark in an instruction delivered to the two-day conference on military logistics work, which concluded on Tuesday in Beijing.

He said that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012, those working in the military logistics field have resolutely implemented the decisions and measures adopted by the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, actively carried out reforms and innovation and focused their efforts in logistics support for combat effectiveness.

They have made significant contributions to the nation's military development and efficiently fulfilled their missions and tasks, he added.

Xi expressed his hope that those working in the military logistics field will fully implement the Party's thought on strengthening national defense and carry out the nation's military strategy and guidelines in the new era.

Efforts should be made to step up the building of a modern military logistics system and a modern military assets management system, and speed up advancing the high-quality growth of modern logistics in order to provide strong support for realizing the goals set for the centenary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army in 2027, Xi said.

Speaking at the conference, Zhang Youxia, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, called for the implementation of Xi's instructions and decisions, and for making efforts to bolster innovation and strengthen military logistics support to develop strong and modern military logistics for the country's armed forces.
