    Eric and his parents stood outside their house.
    They were watching a parade.
     
    A band marched toward them.
    Eric saw lots of different instruments.
     
    And then—
    boom! Ba-boom!
    Rat-a-tat-tat!
    Drums!
    Drummers banged big drums and little drums.
    "Cool!" thought Eric.
     
    Days went by.
    Eric couldn't stop thinking about those drums.
     
    At dinner he tapped on the table.
    At school he tapped on his books.
    In the kitchen he banged pots together.
     
    "Let's go to the garage," Dad said one day.
    "Why?" Eric asked.
    Dad smiled. "I have a surprise."
     
    Dad took Eric into the garage.
    "A drum set!" cried Eric.
     
    It was Dad's old drum set.
    The set had three drums and cymbals.
     
    Dad gave Eric the drumsticks.
    He showed Eric how to hold them.
     
    Eric hit the drums fast.
    Tat! Tat! Tat!
    Eric banged the cymbals.
    Clash!
     
    "I hear music!" someone said.
    Eric looked up and saw Mom.
    She had her guitar.
     
    Dad held up his harmonica.
    Eric grinned. "We've got a family band.
    Let's play!"
