北京取消8月大型会展活动

The Chinese capital Beijing has decided to cancel large-scale exhibitions and events scheduled for this month, after three locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were newly confirmed in the first 12 hours of Wednesday. The municipal government urged relevant departments to carry out timely epidemiological investigations on specific close-contact groups with large mobility, including taxi and ride-hailing drivers, and delivery personnel.
8月4日0时-12时，北京确认新增3名新冠本土传播病例，北京市政府决定，原则上取消8月份在京举办的大型会展活动。市政府还要求，对出租车网约车司机和外卖员、快递员等流动性较大的密接人员，第一时间跟进流调。

Beijing plans to step up the screening of people entering the city from areas with reported COVID-19 cases. It also urges relevant departments to take better care of medical workers at the frontline of disease prevention and control. Airports and traffic nodes in the city are being asked to strengthen their prevention and control measures to halt the spread of the coronavirus. Public places such as parks, scenic spots, performance venues, cinemas and libraries should strictly limit the number of visitors and implement staggered shifts and reservation systems. Meanwhile, the city is studying a possible work plan for managing the return of students to school this fall, according to the municipal government.

China has reported rising extreme weather events like heavy precipitation and high temperatures, according to an official blue paper released Wednesday. The blue paper, issued by the China Meteorological Administration, showed that extreme heat events and the average intensity fluctuation of typhoons landing in China have also increased since the 1990s.
中国气象局8月4日发布的《中国气候变化蓝皮书(2021)》显示，近年来，我国强降水、高温等极端事件呈增多趋势。自20世纪90年代以来，极端高温事件增多，登陆中国台风的平均强度波动增强。

However, the paper showed a decreasing trend of extremely low-temperature events, the average number of days with dusty weather in northern China, and acid rain. Multiple indicators of the climate system suggest that China is likely to face more extreme weather events as global warming continues, according to the paper.
但极端低温事件、北方地区平均沙尘日数、酸雨均呈减弱减少趋势。蓝皮书称，气候系统的多项关键指标表明，全球气候变暖仍在持续，我国遭遇极端天气气候事件的风险进一步加剧。

Global COVID-19 cases surpassed 200 million on Wednesday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The global case count was 200,014,602, with 4,252,873 deaths worldwide, according to the data. The United States reported 35,292,721 cases and 614,666 deaths, both the highest counts around the world, accounting for nearly 18% of the global cases and nearly 15% of the global deaths.

Countries in Southeast Asia are also reporting rising cases. With just 8% of the world's population, the region is reporting almost 15% of all global cases each day. High-income countries administered around 50 doses of vaccines for every 100 people in May, and that number has since doubled, according to WHO. Low-income countries have only been able to administer 1.5 doses for every 100 people, due to a lack of supply.
