第三步：Go Deep - 破解“尬聊”，先找“hot spot”

不知所措的英文表达方法之一：

“The dog that caught the car.”

First, we’ll talk about how to really connect with other people through Hot Spots.

Then, we’ll talk about the three weapons that will let you find anyone’s hot spots, and turn a stranger into a new friend!

If you want to make friends with foreigners, the only thing you have to do is find their hot spot!

The Listen/Respond Cycle:

First, listen carefully.

Then, use their answer to ask a better question next time.

A: So, how long have you been in Beijing?

B: One year.

A: Have you visited any other cities in China?

B: Yeah! I’ve been to Chongqing.  

A: What do you like about Chongqing?

B: I love the food! I can’t live without spicy food.

A: Wow, this is a long line. Do you come here often?

B: Yeah, I do.

A: Do you work nearby?

B: Yes, I do.

A: May I ask, what do you do?

B: I’m a writer! I write for a website about living in China.

A: Really! That’s interesting! What kind of stuff do you write?

The Three Reply Weapons:

1. Questions

2. Fillers

3. Sharing

Questions:

    Closed questions:

“Do you like sports?”

“What is your favorite food?”

    Open questions:

“What do you think about Lady Gaga?”

“How do you feel about your job?”

    Example conversation:

A: What do you do for work?

B: I’m an English teacher.

A: What made you decide to be an English teacher?

B: Well, I was working as a teacher in the US, and then...

Fillers:

Really?

Yeah!

Unbelievable!

That’s amazing!

That’s great!

Oh, no!

I’m sorry to hear that.

Sharing:

If their hot spot is also your hot spot, then all you have to do is share your stories or experience, and you will make a new friend!

A: So, what do you do?

B: I’m a musician.

A: Really！

B: Yeah! I play the guitar.

A: I’m a musician, too. I play the piano.

B: Cool! Do you play often?
