故事原文:
“The Travelers and the Purse
Two travelers were making their way through a crowded village when the first one spotted a purse on the ground.
“This is my lucky day!” he exclaimed. “This purse weighs so much it must be filled with gold.”
The traveler inspected the bag and, sure enough, it contained gold.
The second traveler said, “Do not say ‘my’ lucky day. This is ‘our’ lucky day. We are traveling together and we must share fortunes and misfortunes alike.”
“On the contrary,” said the first traveler. “This is my bag, my gold, and my lucky day. You will get none of it.”
Just then a crowd of people ran up to the two travelers. “Thief! Thief!” they cried, pointing to the first man holding the purse of gold.
“Wait, wait, I can explain,” said the traveler. Then he looked to his companion and said, “Tell them what happened. Explain that I just found it,” he said.
“But no,” said the second traveler. “You just told me it was your bag, your gold, and your lucky day.”
Do not expect others to share your misfortune if you do not also share the good things that come your way.—AESOP”
