Ladies and gentlemen:

As Muslims across the United Kingdom and the commonwealth begin preparations to celebrate Eid after fasting for the holy month of Ramadan, I just wanted to convey my heartfelt best wishes to all who celebrate this festival, and to tell you just how much my wife and I are thinking of you at this special time of year.

当英国和英联邦的穆斯林在斋戒月的尾声，开始准备庆祝开斋节时，我想向所有庆祝这个节日的人们表达我最衷心的祝愿，我也想告诉大家，在这个一年中的特别时刻，我和我的夫人对你们非常牵挂。

I am also very pleased to have this opportunity to congratulate the Naz Legacy Foundation on their invaluable work over the last nine years. Of its many notary of the endeavors for the last six years during Ramadan, the foundation has been bringing together thousands of young people, from a diverse range of religious, ethnic and social backgrounds to meet and break bread together at their interfaith youth iftar, the breaking of the fast.

我也非常高兴能借此机会，对纳兹遗产基金会在过去9年里所做的宝贵努力表示祝贺。在过去六年的斋戒月期间，基金会中许多勤恳的公证人，一直致力于将不同宗教、种族和社会背景下成千上万的年轻人聚集在一起，让在他们在跨宗教信仰的青年开斋节上相聚，并一起打破斋戒进餐。

When I suggested the idea of these annual interfaith iftars focused on young people to some of my good friends from the Muslim community, I must say that my expectations are modest, and it has been wonderful therefore to see just how successful these events have become in facilitating meaningful connections between different communities whilst celebrating and strengthening the foundations for an inclusive, integrated Britain.

当我建议一些穆斯林社区的好友每年举办一次以年轻人为主体的跨宗教信仰的开斋节时，我其实不抱多大期望。因此，能看这样的开斋节在加强不同社区之间有意义的联系上取得巨大成功，同时又为包罗万象、完整统一的英国庆祝并巩固根基时，真是令人惊叹。

I'm delighted to see that in its sixth year this groundbreaking initiative continues to grow with tonight's historic, joint Naz Legacy Foundation and British Asian Trust, virtual iftar, marking the end of this year's iftar series.

我很高兴在跨宗教信仰的开斋节举办的六周年之际，见证这一突破性的举措继续发展：今晚纳兹遗产基金会和英国亚洲信托基金会将联合举办具有历史意义的真正的开斋节，这标志着今年开斋节系列活动的结束。

This last year, I know has been deeply challenging for us all, and I'm only too aware of the impact of the pandemic on the Muslim community. This year, so many families like my own will have an empty seat at their dinner table, and friends are no longer able to share the celebratory hug after Eid prayers.

我知道，过去的一年对我们所有人来说都是极具挑战性的一年，我也深知新冠疫情对穆斯林社区造成的影响。今年，许多家庭像我的家庭一样，餐桌上会有一个空位，朋友们在开斋节的祈祷后也不再能相拥庆祝。

I can only say how deeply saddened I am by this tragic situation, and how my heart goes out to all those who have lost their loved ones.

我只能说，我对这一悲惨的局面深感悲痛，我诚挚的地向所有痛失所爱的人们表示慰问。

I've seen at first-hand how the Naz Legacy Foundation has been working throughout these testing times, supporting thousands of grieving families through their dealing with grief. COVID Initiative, which has collaborated with faith leaders across our country to highlight the impact this pandemic has had on faith rituals, communal worship and grief.

我亲眼见证了纳兹遗产基金会在整个充满考验的时期是如何开展工作的：通过安抚亲人离世的伤痛帮助了成千上万个在悲伤中的家庭。“COVID倡议”与我国各地的宗教领袖合作，共同强调新冠疫情对宗教仪式、集体参拜和情绪的影响。

During this holy month of Ramadan, I know that many of you have been making donations including zakat and sadaqah to those in need across the globe. This year, such generosity will be needed more than ever before.

在这个神圣的斋戒月里，我知道你们中的很多人都一直在为全球各地急需帮助的人捐款，（募捐途径）包括扎卡特（伊斯兰教徒每年一次的慈善捐款）和萨达卡（伊斯兰教关于各种施舍的通称）。今年，我们比以往任何时候都更需要这种慷慨解囊。

I'm very proud therefore that the British Asian Trust is running its “If I Can, She Can” appeal, which will fund their vital work across south Asia, including their women's economic empowerment program in Pakistan.

This program will equip women with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to earn a decent living in a post-COVID economy, by working closely with employers to link women directly to job opportunities.

And if I may say so, it is most encouraging that your donations to this appeal will be doubled by the United Kingdom government. I would particularly like to thank you, ladies and gentlemen and all the communities across the country for playing such a vital role in helping to fight and control this virus.

All over the United Kingdom, places of worship have opened their doors to become vaccine hubs. In this regard, my wife and I were delighted to visit Finsbury Park Mosque to see it first-hand the efforts of the Muslim community to encourage local residents to take the vaccine.

英国各地的宗教场所已经敞开大门，成为疫苗接种中心，为此，我和我的夫人很高兴能参观芬斯伯里公园清真寺，从而亲眼目睹了穆斯林社区为鼓励当地居民接种疫苗所做的努力。

From the Albans Islamic Center in Birmingham to the East London Mosque, it is enormously heartening to see places of worship come together to support this vaccination program, and become pillars of support for both faith and non-faith communities.

从伯明翰的奥尔本斯伊斯兰中心到东伦敦清真寺，能看到许多宗教场所齐心协力支持疫苗接种计划，并成为支撑信仰和非信仰社区的支柱，这是非常振奋人心的。

With Britain's great strides in the vaccine roll out, I am hopeful that we will be able to meet again in person soon in salaah. As the Quran mentions, so surely with hardship comes ease.
