A new research shows that 70% of people in the UK lead a 'completely sedentary lifestyle', spending more than 11 hours of the waking day either sitting or lying down. Stoke-on-Trent tops the list as the most laid-back location, with 81% in the West Midlands city spending most of the day either on the sofa or lying in bed.

Sarkozy sentenced to 3 years

A French court on Monday convicted former president Nicolas Sarkozy on charges of corruption and influence peddling and handed him a three-year prison sentence, including two years suspended. Magistrates in a Paris court found Sarkozy guilty of proposing a prestigious job in Monaco to a prosecutor in exchange for tip-offs on an inquiry into allegations that he had exploited the mental frailty of the late L'Oreal heiress, Liliane Bettencourt, to enjoy donations in cash to finance his 2007 presidential campaign.

A total of 3,228 entrepreneurs with a personal fortune of at least $1 billion entered the Hurun Global Rich List 2021, 412 more than in the previous year. Tesla CEO Elon Musk became the richest person in the world this year by adding $151 billion to his personal wealth, to take the total to $197 billion. And 256 entrepreneurs from China entered the billionaire's club.

WHO:听力健康应引起重视

Nearly 2.5 billion people worldwide ─ or 1 in 4 people ─ will be living with some degree of hearing loss by 2050, warns the World Health Organization's (WHO) first World Report on Hearing, released Tuesday. At least 700 million of these people will require access to ear and hearing care and other rehabilitation services unless action is taken.

Investment in ear and hearing care has been shown to be cost-effective: WHO calculates that governments can expect a return of nearly $16 for every $1 invested.

In adults, noise control, safe listening and surveillance of ototoxic medicines, together with good ear hygiene, can help maintain good hearing and reduce the potential for hearing loss.
