中尼元首共同宣布珠峰'身高'

The new height of Mount Qomolangma, the world's highest peak, is 8,848.86 meters, according to a joint announcement by China and Nepal on Tuesday. President Xi Jinping, exchanging letters with his Nepali counterpart, Bidya Devi Bhandari, on Tuesday, called Mount Qomolangma "an important symbol of the China-Nepal traditional friendship." 

12月8日，国家主席习近平同尼泊尔总统班达里互致信函，共同宣布珠穆朗玛峰最新雪面高程为8848.86米。习近平指出，珠穆朗玛峰是"两国世代友好的重要象征"。

For more than a year, the two countries' survey teams have overcome all kinds of difficulties, solidly carried out their work, and finally reached a conclusion on the snow height based on the International Height Reference System, he said. 

一年多来，两国团队克服种种困难，扎实开展工作，最终确定了基于全球高程基准的珠穆朗玛峰雪面高程。

The joint announcement of the new peak height is of great significance in carrying forward the undertakings of the predecessors to the future and showcasing the high level of continuous development of China-Nepal relations, Xi noted.

A Chinese survey team reached the summit of Mount Qomolangma on May 27 and remeasured the peak height. team members remained at the summit for two and a half hours, a new record for Chinese climbers. Nepali surveyors reached the top of the mountain in May 2019.

2020年5月27日，中国珠峰高程测量登山队成功登顶珠穆朗玛峰，开展珠峰准确高度测量工作。测量工作历经两个半小时，创下中国登山队的新纪录。尼泊尔测量登山队于2019年5月登顶珠穆朗玛峰。

11月CPI同比下降0.5%

China's consumer price index posted the first year-on-year drop in 11 years last month, as pork prices declined while nonfood prices remained subdued, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday. CPI, the main gauge of inflation, dropped by 0.5 percent year-on-year in November, marking the first decline since October 2009, according to the NBS. 

12月9日，国家统计局公布的数据显示，由于猪肉价格下跌，非食品价格持续低迷，11月份全国居民消费价格(CPI)同比下降0.5%，创近11年新低，为2009年10月首次出现负增长。

Dong Lijuan, a NBS statistician, attributed the decline in consumer prices mainly to dropping food prices. Pork prices, in particular, slumped by 12.5 percent year-on-year from a high comparison base last year as pork production continued to recover. 

国家统计局统计师董莉娟表示，食品价格下降是CPI下降的主因。尤其是猪肉价格，随着生产持续恢复，又受到去年同期对比基数较高影响，同比下降12.5%。

Nonfood prices edged down by 0.1 percent year-on-year in November, the bureau said, with the prices for transportation, especially petrol and diesel oil, dropping, while those for healthcare and education rising. The core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose 0.5% year-on-year last month, the fifth consecutive month for the index to register the same growth, the bureau said.

US President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday laid out his plan to fight the coronavirus pandemic during his first 100 days in office, saying his administration would vaccinate 100 million Americans, push to reopen schools and strengthen mask mandates. At a briefing in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden said he needed Congress to fully fund delivering vaccines to all corners of the United States.
