it is a slightly lazier way of greeting someone if u like."Hello" is also a bit more formal than "Hi". "I am very well, thank u" also sounds more formal than "fine ,thanks" or "Good thanks". Again, mainly because it takes longer to say. It doesnt mean u should never say "hi" in formal situations, it is just if u want to sound more polite, using more complete word and phrases will help.Listen again to the two strangers and listen out for those differences.First the less formal one :repeat Now ,the more formal one: repeat So the words that were longer tend to sound more formal and polite.

If a waiter says "Good evening Sir", u would just reply with "Good evening", u wouldnt say "Good evening Sir" back. This is because in this particular situation, u are the one being given the most importance. So u dont need to show the extra sign of respect.Likewise if u are walking to a hotel and the receptionist says" Good

Well shorter and abbreviated words are more likely to sound informal and friendly. Now lets look at some of the handy phrases u could use in greetings. We are about to hear another clip. Madelyn and Angus are both at the same dinner party. They met a couple of times before but havent seen each other for a while. Listen to their conversation: -Hello, it is lovely to see u again. How are u?- Hello Angus ,i am very well thank u. It has been a long time ,hasnt it? How are things with u? "Lovely to see u again" is a nice expression often to use when u havent seen someone for a while.
