At $3.6bn, Facebook’s fourth-quarter profit was more than twice that of the year before, though an accounting-rule change was responsible for almost $1bn of that.

Stefan Larsson, chief executive of Ralph Lauren, said he would step down.
Mr Larsson, who has been at the luxury fashion brand less than two years, led a campaign of cutting jobs and costs.
He said that although he and the eponymous founder “worked hard to find common ground” on the creative direction of the business, they did not find it.
