Hi, I’m Cate Blanchett. And like most of us, I’m staying at home right now as part of the global effort to keep each other safe in these very trying times.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the homing instinct that we all very powerfully have when a crisis like this hits. And I’ve also been thinking about family, and how fortunate I feel to be here right now at home with my family and thinking about those who are tragically unable to be with theirs.

And I’ve also been thinking about hope. And in the face of a pandemic like this which none of us know the duration of it, just how vital it is to live with hope and how difficult it is to live with uncertainty.

But one thing is for sure if there is any opportunity in all of this, it’s the opportunity to reconnect, to reconnect with our sense of kindness, our sense of resilience and to reconnect with the experience of others. Nor the elderly those whose livelihoods are hanging by a thread, those who are displaced far from home, our neighbors, but also those in other countries.

And as a goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, I do know that there are communities around the world right now who are incredibly vulnerable and I do think that story is a very powerful way to do, just that, to embrace the realization that in looking after the world’s most vulnerable, they are in fact being after ourselves.

And so I thought I would share with you a few films that have enabled me to reconnect with those experiences over the last few weeks. And I hope you’ll enjoy them and use them as a chance to take some time, and reconnect with the experience of others’, and realize that we are in fact all seeking the same thing. And that’s a place to call home. So I hope you enjoy them:

The Other Side of Hope by Aki Kaurismaki

Babel by Alejandro G. Inarritu

The Joy Luck Club by Wayne Wang

So that was my watch list. I hope it connected with you and you’ve enjoyed it. And I also truly hope that you and yours are safe and healthy. COVID-19 has affected all of us, and we’ve seen one of stunning countries with strong and robust healthcare systems, but now we’re seeing the spread to countries with weaker systems and it’s putting lives of millions of risk, of course refugees, some of the world’s most vulnerable.

You just have to imagine for a moment what it will be like in an overcrowded refugee camp, with a threat of COVID-19 where there’s a limit access to soap and water, and with social distancing is virtually impossible. So these families are more vulnerable than ever.

And the stuff at UNHCR are staying and delivering. Now I know that many of you already supporting vital work in your home countries but it is any way that you could consider supporting the work of UNHCR. Please go to UNHCR.org/covid. Thanks!

详情可在UNHCR.org/covid.
