'阿甘夫妇'新冠检测阳性

Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Hanks said on Twitter. 

奥斯卡金像奖得主、好莱坞影星汤姆·汉克斯11日在其推特上透露，他和妻子丽塔·威尔逊的新冠病毒检测结果呈阳性。

The Hollywood star said on Wednesday that he and Wilson, who are both 63, were tested in Australia, after they felt tired and achy with slight fevers. 

汉克斯称，两人目前在澳大利亚，因为觉得疲倦，身体酸痛，还有一点发烧，因此接受了新冠病毒检测。

Hanks said they would be "observed and isolated" for as long as required. The couple is in Australia for the pre-production of Baz Luhrmann's currently untitled Elvis Presley film from Warner Bros. Hanks is set to play Presley's longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker.

2/  WHO: Coronavirus a pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday declared the COVID-19 viral disease that has swept into at least 114 countries and killed more than 4,000 people a pandemic. "In the past two weeks, the number of cases of COVID-19 outside China has increased 13-fold, and the number of affected countries has tripled," said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. 

世界卫生组织11日宣布新冠肺炎疫情已经构成全球性大流行，目前疫情已席卷至少114个国家，导致超过4000人死亡。世卫组织总干事谭德塞称，过去两周中国以外新冠肺炎确诊病例数已增长13倍，受影响国家数量增加了两倍。

"In the days and weeks ahead, we expect to see the number of cases, the number of deaths, and the number of affected countries climb even higher," he said. Ghebreyesus urged people not to be fearful because of its status as a pandemic. "Describing the situation as a pandemic does not change WHO's assessment of the threat posed by the virus," Ghebreyesus said. "It doesn't change what WHO is doing. And it doesn't change what countries should do."

未来几周内预计确诊病例数、死亡人数、以及受影响国家数量还将进一步攀升。谭德赛敦促民众不要因为"大流行"一词而恐慌。他表示，将新冠肺炎疫情描述为"大流行"不会改变世卫组织对其威胁的评估，不会改变世卫组织正在做的事情，也不会改变各国应该做的事情。

3/  US suspends travel from Europe

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday suspended all travel from Europe to the US for 30 days starting on Friday in order to fight the novel coronavirus. The travel restrictions did not apply to the United Kingdom, Trump made the announcement in an Oval Office address to the nation as he seeks to combat a viral pandemic.

美国总统特朗普11日在白宫椭圆形办公室就应对新冠肺炎疫情发表全国讲话。特朗普宣布，自13日起对欧洲实施为期30天的旅行禁令，但英国将不受该禁令影响。

The number of known coronavirus cases in the US surpassed 1,600 on Wednesday in 38 states. Many universities are suspending classes, ending the semester early, or conducting online classes. The National Basketball Association said on Wednesday that it was suspending the season until further notice after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for the coronavirus.

截至11日，美国38个州累计报告新冠肺炎病例超过1600例。许多大学停课、提前放假或选择网上授课。美国职业篮球联赛11日宣布暂停本赛季比赛，何时复赛将另行通知，原因是一名犹他爵士队球员的新冠病毒检测结果呈阳性。

4/  World's bias against women

全球9成人对女性有偏见

A new UN report has found at least 90% of men and women hold some sort of bias against females. There are no countries in the world with gender equality, the study found. 

联合国的一份新报告发现，至少90%的人对女性持有某种偏见。研究发现，世界上没有性别平等的国家。

Zimbabwe had the highest amount of bias with only 0.27% of people reporting no gender bias at all. At the other end of the scale was Andorra where 72% of people reported no bias. 

津巴布韦的性别歧视最为严重，只有0.27%的人没有报告性别歧视现象。性别最平等的则是安道尔共和国，有72%的人报告称不存在性别歧视。

Globally, close to 50% of men said they had more right to a job than women. Almost a third of respondents thought it was acceptable for men to hit their partners. According to the report, about half of the world's men and women feel that men make better political leaders.

Pedro Conceicao, head of UNDP's Human Development Report Office said: "We have come a long way in recent decades to ensure that women have the same access to life's basic needs as men. But gender gaps are still all too obvious in other areas."
