Mr. Gumpy's Outing - 和甘伯伯去游河

This is Mr. Gumpy.
故事的主人公叫Gumpy先生。

Mr. Gumpy owned a boat and his house was by a river.
Gumpy先生住在河边，他有一条木船。

One day Mr. Gumpy went out in his boat.
一天，Gumpy先生划船出门。

" May we come with you?" said the children.
小孩儿们问：“你可以带上我们吗？”

" Yes," said Mr. Gumpy, " if you don't squabble."

Gumpy先生说道：“可以啊，但你们不能大吵大闹。”

" Can I come along, Mr. Gumpy?" said the rabbit. "Yes, but don't hop about."
小兔子也想上船，Gumpy先生没有拒绝，但他提出了一个要求，那就是不能在船上乱蹦。

" I'd like a ride," said the cat. " Very well," said Mr. Gumpy. "But you're not to chase the rabbit."
小猫希望搭乘Gumpy先生的小船，他同意了，但他告诉小猫不能在船上追兔子。

" Will you take me with you?" said the dog. "Yes," said Mr. Gumpy. " But don't tease the cat."
Gumpy先生答应小狗可以上船，但他要求小狗不能戏弄小猫。

" May I come, please, Mr. Gumpy?" said the pig. " Very well, but don't muck about."
Gumpy先生表示欢迎，但他告诉小猪不能在船上来回逛荡。

" Have you a place for me?" said the sheep. " Yes, but don't keep bleating."
Gumpy先生让小绵羊上了船，但他希望小绵羊不要一直咩咩叫。

" Can we come too?" said the chickens.
“我们能一起去吗？”小鸡们问道。

" Yes, but don't flap," said Mr. Gumpy.
Gumpy先生说，只要他们不在船上拍打翅膀，就可以上来。

" Can you make room for me?" said the calf.
Gumpy先生会同意小牛上船吗？

" Yes, if you don't trample about."
Gumpy先生同意了，但他要求小牛不能在船上到处踩踏。

" May I join you, Mr. Gumpy?" said the goat." Very well, but don't kick."
小山羊也想加入他们，好脾气的Gumpy先生同样答应了，但他希望小山羊不要在船上乱踢。

For a little while they all went along happily but then...
就这样，小小的船载满了乘客，快乐地向前行驶。然而，仅仅一会的功夫……



The goat kicked, the calf trampled, the chickens flapped, the sheep bleated, the pig mucked about, the dog teased the cat, the cat chased the rabbit, the rabbit hopped, the children squabbled, the boat tipped... and into the water they fell.
山羊乱踢，牛乱踩，小鸡们乱扑翅膀，小羊咩咩乱叫，猪到处晃，狗招惹了猫，猫就去追兔子，兔子乱蹦乱叫，小孩儿大吵大闹，于是船就翻了，大家都掉入了水里。

Then Mr. Gumpy and the goat and the calf and the chickens and the sheep and the pig and the dog and the cat and the rabbit and the children all swam to the bank and climbed out to dry in the hot sun.
Gumpy先生带着两个小朋友以及所有的小动物们一起游上岸，在太阳底下，把衣服晒干了。

" We'll walk home across the fields," said Mr. Gumpy. " It's time for tea."
这个时候，Gumpy先生提议：“我们从田野中穿回去，到我家喝杯下午茶吧。”

" Goodbye," said Mr. Gumpy. "Come for a ride another day."
Gumpy先生说道：“朋友们，再见。改天再来坐船游玩吧”。
