India's government made a surprise decision to withdraw current 500-and 1,000-rupee banknotes from circulation in an effort to clamp down on black marketeers and corruption.

Banks were closed to allow them to stock up on lower-denomination notes, but some later ran out of cash as Indians swarmed to swap high-value notes for legal tender.

The deal is the latest in a string of moves by big technology firms to benefit from the rise of the connected car.

Samsung is particularly keen to gain a stronger foothold in promising technologies, as growth is slowing in its core smartphone business.
