The sky of my hometown city often appears overcast when it comes to winter. This unpleasant weather condition happens because my hometown is located in the industrial area in the northern part of China. It’s evident that the exhaust pollution is coming fromcentralized heating（集中供暖） and factories.

Although the government has adopted many actions such as traffic restrictions（限行）on vehicles to improve air quality, the effect is minimal, considering the primary source of pollution is industrial. So, in my opinion, the government should provide means for the factories to clean the exhaust waste, such as establishing funding to install air purifiers or filters in the chimneys.

However, restricting factory operations is logical for the improvement of air quality but bad for the economy as a whole. The city’s overall productivity is expected to fall with stricter environmental regulations in place. Furthermore, there will be disaffection among factory owners and workers for disrupting their normal operations.

But I believe the environment should take precedence over（优于） economic development at this moment. We’ve already achieved so much in the last few decades, and now we should focus on the environment first. More and more people want to live in anenvironmentally-friendly city（环境友好型城市）. They want to enjoy the nature rather than looking at the hazy gray sky. Also, the cost of fixing the environment will be higher in the future.
