Former US secretary of state Rex Tillerson and former White House chief of staff John F. Kelly sought to recruit her to work around and subvert President Donald Trump, but she refused, former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley writes in a new book, "With All Due Respect", released Tuesday.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson won the most significant boost of the British election campaign to date when Nigel Farage's Brexit Party pulled out of 317 Conservative-held seats in a bid to prevent opponents of Brexit controlling the next parliament. The move dramatically increases the chances that Johnson will stay prime minister, and then finally deliver on the 2016 referendum result to take Britain out of the European Union.

Johnson welcomed Farage's move, which rivals said made the Conservatives in effect an ally of Farage's hard-Brexit party.

The General Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee has published a work plan for strengthening education and training of Party members. Starting from 2019, a five-year education campaign will be launched to ensure that all CPC members will receive Party training focusing on strengthening their ideals, sense of Party consciousness and competence, according to the plan. 
中共中央办公厅近日印发《2019－2023年全国党员教育培训工作规划》，要求各地区各部门从2019年开始，用5年时间，把全体党员普遍轮训一遍。党员教育培训的重点是坚定理想信念、增强党性观念、提升能力素质。

During the campaign, the primary political task is to study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, it said. The plan also detailed the basic tasks of Party member training, including political theory education, political education and training, education on the Party Constitution, Party rules and discipline, the Party's purpose as well as the traditions of revolution.
规划要求，要把学习贯彻习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想作为首要政治任务，全面落实政治理论教育、政治教育和政治训练、党章党规党纪教育、党的宗旨教育、革命传统教育等基本任务。

The government of New South Wales, Australia's most populous state, on Monday declared a state of emergency as the Sydney region braced for unprecedented fire conditions. More than 350 schools and colleges will be closed on Tuesday in Sydney and surrounding regions.

Since Friday, fires have destroyed nearly 1 million hectares of bush and agricultural land in the north of the state. More than 200 homes have been lost, three people killed, dozens injured, and millions of dollars of infrastructure and farm machinery destroyed.
