英文原文:

Turtle, snake, lizard, crocodiles... all these animals are reptiles.

You can recognise reptiles by their skin. They are covered in scales that keep their bodies moist.

From time to time, they change their skin, leaving the old behind.

Most reptiles are carnivores – hunting and catching other animals.

Some reptiles lay eggs.

Sea turtles come to shore to make their nests. The tiny hatchlings quickly find their way to the water, ready to begin their lives in the ocean. They can look after themselves from the moment they are born.

The saltwater crocodile is the largest reptile. It can grow up to 7 metres long! With watchful eyes above water and a huge body hidden underneath.

Crocodiles have four legs and a long, powerful tail – and gigantic jaws with lots of sharp teeth.

Cunning chameleons climb and cling. They can change colours to hide from other animals. They move slowly – but dart out their sticky tongues to catch prey. They feed on insects and small amphibians, like frogs.

Snakes slither and slide. They flex their bodies and move along the ground. Many snakes are constrictors – coiling around their food, swallowing it whole!

Some snakes are poisonous and kill their prey with a single bite!

Reptiles are cold-blooded. Their bodies react to the temperature around them. To get warm, they bask in the sun... if they get too hot they can slink back into the water.
