Hillary Clinton’s doctor said the Democratic presidential nominee was “healthy and fit to serve”, and that the 68-year-old was recovering from the bout of non-contagious bacterial pneumonia which sparked alarm at the weekend.

It says he takes a cholesterol-reducing drug and is overweight, but in “excellent physical health”.

Tom Staggs, long seen as the heir apparent to Disney’s boss Bob Iger, said he would step down, evidently disappointed at not being guaranteed the succession. 

Mr Iger, who has run the entertainment conglomerate for 15 years, is due to depart in 2018—but may now stay on. 

The company said it would “broaden the scope of its succession-planning process”.
