《月亮和六便士》6：双语彩蛋

亲爱的喜马拉雅听众朋友，现在让我们一起来欣赏两段《月亮与六便士》中的原文和中文译文。原文用的是Vintage出版社1999年版本，译文用的是陶然的译本。

第一段：

迪尔克.施特罗韦虽然是个比较平庸的画家，但独具慧眼，是个真正懂斯屈兰绘画作品的批评家。在第19章，他对妻子布兰琪和到访的“我”，盛赞斯屈兰的画作时，说了这么一段话：

“Why should you think that beauty, which is the most precious thing in theworld, lies like a stone on the beach for the careless passer-by to pick upidly? Beauty is something wonderful and strange that the artist fashions out ofthe chaos of the world in the torment of his soul. And when he has made it, itis not given to all to know it. To recognize it you must repeat the adventureof the artist. It is a melody that he sings to you, and to hear it again inyour own heart you want knowledge and sensitiveness and imagination.”

“美是世上最珍贵的东西，怎么可能像石头那样丢在沙滩上，给漫不经心的路人顺手拾捡？美绝妙又奇异，是艺术家忍着灵魂的煎熬从混乱的世界提炼出来的。他创造出来，却未必人人能懂。要想领会，你必须重复艺术家的冒险历程。那是他吟唱的旋律，你若想衷心听到，必须凭知识、敏感和想象。” （谷启楠译本见85页）

第二段：

小说到了第50章，叙述人“我”对斯屈兰的生平事迹及其画意已有所领悟，他在这一章的开头一节说：

I have an idea that some men are born out of theirdue place. Accident has cast them amid certain surroundings, but they havealways a nostalgia for a home they know not. They are strangers in their birthplace,and the leafy lanes they have known from childhood or the populous streets inwhich they have played, remain but a place of passage. They may spend theirwhole lives aliens among their kindred and remain aloof among the only scenesthey have ever known. Perhaps it is this sense of strangeness that sends menfar and wide in the search for something permanent, to which they may attachthemselves. Perhaps some deep-rooted atavism urges the wanderer back to landswhich his ancestors left in the dim beginnings of history. Sometimes a man hitsupon a place to which he mysteriously feels that he belongs. Here is the homehe sought, and he will settle amid scenes that he has never seen before, amongmen he has never known, as though they were familiar to him from his birth.Here at last he finds rest.

我觉得有些人就是生错了地方。造化弄人，他们被抛到某处，却惦念着一个隐约朦胧的故乡。出生地则是异乡，从小熟悉的绿荫小巷、曾经玩耍的拥挤闹市，都只是沿途风景。他们在亲友中也许一辈子都落落寡合，对自己唯一熟悉的环境淡然疏离。也许正是这种陌生感促使他跑遍千山万水寻觅自己永恒的归宿。也许有某种根深蒂固的返祖欲，促使迷途者返回祖先在鸿蒙初辟时离开的故土。有时一个人偶然来到某地，会有莫名其妙的归属感。这就是他寻找的家园，他将融入自己从未见过的环境，与从未谋面的人相伴，似乎生来就和这一切相熟，在这里他终得安歇。（218页）
