Earthquakes wrought havoc in Ecuador, killing more than 200, and Japan, where at least 41 died and 11 were missing. Hundreds were injured in both countries. In Japan, 180,000 people are in temporary shelters and 300,000 homes are without water. Ecuador’s earthquake was six times more powerful, but hit a less densely populated area.
