Celebrating the birth of his first child, Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Facebook, promised to put 99% of his shares in the company (worth around $45 billion at today’s prices) into a charitable foundation. His lengthy letter announcing the plan, published on Facebook on Tuesday, quickly won more than 1m “likes”. Mr Zuckerberg will retain a controlling stake.
