Chinese consumers smashed last year’s record for purchases on Singles’ Day, the world’s biggest online-shopping frenzy. Alibaba, an e-commerce giant, said that 91.2 billion yuan was spent on its various websites, two-thirds of it from mobile devices. In 2014 shoppers forked out a miserly $9.3 billion. Despite the record, Alibaba’s share price fell in New York.
