Still, he was more worried about Rapunzel. As two guards escorted (押送) him through the jail, Flynn spotted the Stabbingtons in one of the cells. Breaking free from (挣脱) the guards, he grabbed one of the brothers by the collar (衣领).
“How did you know about her? Tell me, NOW!” Flynn needed to know what had happened, how they had known about Rapunzel—where she was!
“It wasn’t us. It was the old lady.”
Flynn tightened (收紧) his grip (握力), but the guards rushed up and pulled him back roughly (粗暴地).
“Wait, wait!” Flynn shouted to the guards. “Wait! You don’t understand, she’s in trouble!” He didn’t care that they were leading him to his death. He needed to save Rapunzel!
Suddenly he heard a ruckus (骚动) outside. Flynn’s jaw dropped. The thugs from the Snuggly Duckling had arrived! And they had come to break Flynn out of jail (把…从监狱里救出来). Flynn didn’t know how or why they had come, but he leaped at (迫不及待地接受) the opportunity.
Swinging his chains (锁链), he knocked over (轻易击败) the two guards. He and the thugs raced outside and headed toward the kingdom’s gates. The thugs punched and smacked (拍打) and wrestled (与…摔跤) the royal guards to the ground.
Finally one of the thugs grabbed Flynn and put him on a wheelbarrow (独轮手推车). Then, using the barrow (手推车) as a seesaw (跷跷板), another thug jumped on the other end, launching (投掷) Flynn into the air. He landed perfectly on Maximus’s back. The horse snorted at Flynn. He hoped Flynn had finally noticed what an excellent (杰出的) horse he was. Maximus had galloped (飞奔) to find the thugs from the Snuggly Duckling and lead them to Flynn.
“Shut the gates! Shut the gates! Shut the gates!” the guards yelled. Maximus charged! The speedy (迅速的) horse zipped (快速移动) right through the gates as they slammed shut (砰地关上). Safely outside, Flynn and Maximus raced to save Rapunzel.
“Rapunzel!” Flynn yelled as he jumped off (跳下) Maximus’s back. No answer. “Rapunzel, let down your hair!” he yelled again, desperately hoping she was safe.
Swoosh (嗖的一声)! Rapunzel’s long blond (金色的) hair glided (滑动) out of the window and down the tower. She was alive! Grasping her hair, Flynn climbed up the tower as fast as he could. At last, he made it to (到达) the window and hauled (拉) himself inside.
“Rapunzel, I thought I’d never see you again!” Flynn exclaimed. Then he stopped short (突然停住) and gasped. In the darkness, he saw the shards of a broken mirror on the floor—and heard the muffled (被捂住的) sound of Rapunzel’s voice. She was kneeling (跪) on the floor across from (在…对面) him. Mother Gothel had chained (用铁链锁住) her to the wall and gagged (塞住口) her. Rapunzel’s eyes were wide with fear as she struggled to warn him … Then Flynn felt the sharp point (尖) of Mother Gothel’s dagger against his back. He crumpled (瘫倒) to the floor in pain (疼痛地).
Rapunzel cried out through the rags (破布) stuffed (填塞) in her mouth. But Mother Gothel stared at her coldly and said, “Now look what you’ve done, Rapunzel. Oh, don’t you worry, dear. Our secret will die with him (伴随他的死而消失).”
Rapunzel could not speak, but now she understood: Mother Gothel intended to (打算) leave Flynn here to die!
Rapunzel needed to save him with her hair!
