Every thug in the room eyed (细看) the reward mentioned (提到) on the poster. All heads turned in Flynn’s direction with a keen (热切的) interest.
“It’s him, all right,” one thug said. “Greno (葛雷诺), go find some guards.”
“That reward’s gonna buy me a new hook (钩子),” a one-armed thug said, licking his chops (嘴周围的地方).
The bartender (酒保) grabbed Flynn. “I could use the money,” he said.
“What about me?” another thug interrupted. “I’m broke (破产了).”
A brawl (打架) quickly ensued (继而发生), with bottles crashing (碰撞) and chairs flying. Everyone was pulling at (用力拉) Flynn. Pascal and Rapunzel ducked and cringed (畏缩), terrified.
“Please!” Flynn squealed (激烈抗议) from under the pile of filthy (肮脏的) men. “We can work this out!” But the only replies were grunts (牢骚声), shouts, and growls (咆哮声).
Rapunzel tried to help. She raised her frying pan and spoke up (大声说). “Um, excuse me? Ruffians?” she said.
“Gentlemen! Please!” Flynn cried as one of his arms was twisted (扭曲) behind his back and his knee was jammed (使卡住) into a table.
“Is it possible to just get my guide back?” Rapunzel shouted. She poked (戳) one of the thugs with her pan. “Just stop. Stop!” Nothing happened.
Rapunzel looked around. She saw a large table and jumped on top of it. It was time to take action (采取行动)! She whacked (重击) her pan against a giant pot (罐) hanging from the ceiling. CLANG (叮当声)! Then, with all her might (力气), she yelled, “PUT HIM DOWN!”
For a moment, there was absolute (完全的) silence. Every thug in the tavern stopped what he was doing and stared at the young woman.
Rapunzel took a breath. “Okay,” she said to the rabid (疯狂的) mob (暴徒), “I don’t know where I am, and I need him to take me to see the lanterns because I’ve been dreaming about them my entire life (这一生)! Find your humanity (人性)!” she pleaded. “Haven’t you ever had a dream?”
Flynn cringed. A dream? Did she really want to talk about dreams with this crowd? His heart sank (变得沉重). He was definitely going to end up with (以…结束) a broken nose.
Then the thug with a hook for a hand moved toward Rapunzel with a menacing (吓人的) look. Rapunzel froze.
“I had a dream once,” the brute (残暴的人) said softly. He tossed aside (扔到一边) his axe and told Rapunzel that he’d dreamed of being a pianist (钢琴家). Finding a small piano, he began to play.
A burly (健壮的) thug covered in bumps (肿块) and bruises (瘀伤) took the opportunity to tell Rapunzel about his dream. He handed her a flower. He wanted to fall in love! Rapunzel patted (轻拍) his hand.
Flynn was becoming more and more interested. What was up with (…是怎么了) this young woman, anyway? He watched as the tavern thugs turned to mush (感伤), weeping and sweetly telling Rapunzel about their dreams. They confessed (坦言) to wanting to become everything from florists (花农) to ballet dancers (芭蕾舞者). And all the while, her faithful (忠诚的) chameleon, Pascal, sat on her shoulder, protectively (保护地) looking out (留心) for her. Everyone seemed to adore (非常喜欢) her!
