乐音（旋律音）有四个特性，音高（高低）、音值（长短）、音量和音色。音乐作品就是人们根据一定的内容和思想感情的需要，运用音的不同特性，予以有规律的组合而构成的。

音高：是由于物体在一定时间内振动次数（频率）的多少而决定。振动次数多音则高，振动次数少音则低。也就是说振动的频率高音则高，振动的频率低音则低。

音值：是由于音的振动持续时间不同而决定的。持续时间长音则长，持续时间短音则短。
