The Joy Luck Club (1989) is written by Amy Tan. It is about four Chinese American immigrant families in San Francisco who start a club known as The Joy Luck Club, playing mahjong for money while feasting on a variety of foods.
The structure of the novel is like a mahjong game, four parts being divided into four sections. So, altogether, there are sixteen chapters. The three mothers and four daughters (one mother, Suyuan Woo, dies before the novel opens) told stories about their lives in the form of vignettes. Each part is preceded by a parable relating to the game.
结合书本去听,效果不错。我觉得这音频相当好,特别是对于学英语的人来说。
