Antikue's 'Callback E.P.' is his first new music for a while, having previously been an advocate of deep brooding and experimental electronica (under this Antikue guise), acid tinged electro (under Nutaike) and wild experimental bass music (under L-D-T). The E.P. is definitely a sign of his growth in production and his understanding of blurred musical boundaries, as I am not sure we can sit here and downright say that it is a dubstep record (whatever that is nowdays anyway!)Opener 'Callback' is a melting pot of influences with deep lush pads firing off into broken hat's and half time kick snare patterns whilst spacey electronica flutters before !BAM! a spacious bass lick appears. The track then builds nicely into a somewhat of a break-up rather than break-down :) And then when least expecting a crackly, phased topline pop's up for your pleasure. Next up 'Shuckle Track' is a half-time dubbed out breaker, complete with opening thunder clap and progressive bass and riff sections. Think of it as the dancefloor tumbler in an EP of gems showing off the breadth of Antikue's new sound. Closing track 'Strongarmed' is a bit more straight down the electronica route and probably the nearest to what you might expect if Antikue was making '140bpm' music in 2005 :) Gorgeous intergalactic Detroit inspired pads and bleep ridden toplines definitely send this E.P. off into the stratosphere.
