"Rabbit is Rich" is the third novel in John Updike's Rabbit Angstrom tetralogy. It was published in 1981 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. The novel follows the life of Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, a former high school basketball star who is now 46 years old and living in Brewer, Pennsylvania. Rabbit is married to Janice and they have two children together. He is the co-owner of a Toyota dealership and is doing well financially. However, he is still haunted by his past and is not sure what he wants out of life.
In "Rabbit is Rich", Updike explores themes of middle age, materialism, and the American dream. He also examines the complex relationships between Rabbit, Janice, and their children. The novel is a funny, moving, and insightful portrait of one man's search for meaning in life.
