Here are some of JingJobs’ suggestions on how to find your career passion and hopefully achieve a stimulating and rewarding career.

1. Follow Your Curiosity and Explore. We understand the troubles of trying to find your passion without taking the ultimate risk of quitting stable employment and losing a steady income. If you’re unhappy at your current work and you don’t feel like you’re realizing your true potential, take any free time you have to try new things or pursue current interests. Whether it’s something creative, sporty, learning a new skill, or even just reading about certain topics, you will soon be able to figure out what keeps you stimulated and energized throughout the day. If you’re a recent university graduate without too many financial commitments, you might even be able to plunge head first into volunteering on projects, events or work unpaid in a certain industry to get a feel of different work environments before fully committing to them.

2. Reach Out to People. If you have mentors or role models you look up to, ask them about their work experience, how they achieved career satistfaction and consult them on anything that might give you insight into their particular field or industry. Not only will they give you an idea of what it would be like to be in their position, but by doing your research you’ll have a much better idea of how you could transition from your current situation and into your passion. If these people happen to work in the industry you’re interested in, it will in turn help you get your foot in the door when you do decide to seriously pursue other possibilities.

3. Don’t Feel Pressured by Other People’s Expectations. Many young jobseekers feel an intense burden to please their parents or compare their job offers with their peers. It’s important to remember that in the end it’s you who will be most affected by these choices and you have a right to pursue a career that will bring you the most satisfaction. You will never have to worry about feeling unmotivated or uninspired. Skills can be learned but passion is part of who you are.

4. Do Not Let Money Rule Your Ultimate Decisions. Obviously this is a hard one to live by and does not apply to everyone. Most young jobseekers are saddled with college debt, and struggle to earn a living through entry level wages or internship stipends, some may rely on family support. However, if you are in favourable financial conditions and have a bit of flexibility with money, try your hardest not to let it be your primary concern, as this automatically limits your options in pursuing something you love doing. The aim is to perfect your passion and relevant skills so that you will find yourself in a position of power and freedom to earn income on your own terms.
